Star Anise - growing in Middle TN

I am a member of The Perennial Plant Society of Middle TN. One of the wonderful benefits of membership is the warm weather local garden tours. This lovely spice bush was growing in a Brentwood landscape. Photos were taken in September 2022.

Garden Stories - Capture Yours!

I grew up taking photographs, gardening, making scrapbooks and traveling. Along the way I jotted notes in journals about my experiences and loaded many albums with photographs. It occurred to me that I need to combine all those skills into a new project that I hope will be a blessing to other gardeners!

So many gardens, and their gardeners, have stories to tell:
 * The rose bush from a great grandparent that was passed down to you.
* The seed that saved up all its muster to bloom years later once you put it in a pot at your new home in your new state.
* The vegetable garden that you and your kids planted 20 years ago and is still going strong year after year.

If you are interested in securing my services to put together your very own album about your unique garden and its stories, let's talk!
I would love to be your GARDEN STORY CONSULTANT.

Memory books are a wonderful way to log current plants growing in your landscape and a way to capture in writing and in photos how the garden transitioned into its beautiful existence.

Garden memories bring joy to our hearts and help us to remember the exceptional moments we lived!
Please complete the form at the right to contact me.
Looking forward to meeting you!

Lace Crepe Myrtle

The CM blooms are opening late this year! We had such a mild Spring it could have delayed the flowering. This variety is one of my favorites. It is middle of July and many trees are just getting started in putting on their "shows". Happy Summer!

Flower Stories - Day Lily

One of my favorite things about being a gardener is that fact that I get to share my plant wealth with others and they are so inclined to share with me when they have extra plants in their landscape!

This fine day lily plant was originally a gift from my neighbor when I resided in VA. He has long since moved to FL but it was so nice of him to share this plant with me before he left. It came from his mother's garden.

When I left VA I took part of the plant with me and gave it to my mother for her TN yard. Lovely, right?!

Strophostyles umbellata - Pink Fuzzy Bean!

This is one of my favorite wild vines seen only in the month of August here in middle TN. The blossom reminds me of a seashell from the beach. :)

American Lotus

I had my first viewing of this marvelous plant this month. It was a lovely surprise to see American Lotus existing in and around a park pond in Brentwood, TN.

The large blooms rival the southern magnolia evergreen in size. Easily the diameter was 12 inches across. Many of the plants surpassed 5 feet in height and the leaves of the older plants were 18 inches or more in width.

In the center of each bloom is a green cone which holds tiny seeds. As the flower is pollinated and then loses its petals, the cone grows and along with it the size of the seeds increase.

What a spectacular creation!
